There are so many details that go into planning a wedding. So many coupes get overwhelmed quickly because of these details. But what if I told you, half of the details that couples spend extensive time and LOTS of money on, aren’t even noticed by their wedding guests. Today I am sharing some of the things that your guests could care less about! (disclaimer: If a wedding vendor or something obsessed with weddings attends your wedding, these details definitely will be fully appreciated and you absolutely will be “judged” on these items. But for the normal wedding guests….these are things they just don’t miss if you don’t have them!
1. Wedding Favors. Matchstick books, bookmarks, koozies and little cookies that taste awful, made to look like little bride dresses are all big ticket items that used to be popular. In today’s weddings, people could care less. If I told you how many favors get left behind that I send back home with the couple to ultimately be thrown away, you would be astounded.
2. Seating Charts. This is the one that really gets me. So many of our couples stress for months about sitting people in the right spot and with the right people. Unless there is some serious family drama, it’s going to be okay! There are no rules. You don’t have to sit all the single people together (actually it must feel awful for the singles to be stuck at a table with each other dealing with the fact that they don’t have anyone) or that the two kiddos that are attending your wedding have to sit with adults who “don’t mind children.” At the end of the day, your guests will sit at their table for dinner and that’s it! And remember, if they hate where they are sitting, they will most likely find their own table anyways. No one is going to go crazy and flip the table because you sat them with someone they don’t like!
3. Wedding Programs. Most guests mingle upon arriving to your wedding. If you are getting married in Virginia, you will find that it’s either way too hot or way too cold for your guests to go out and sit to wait for the ceremony to begin. A few guests may read your program to pass the time, but it’s not something that will be missed if you leave it out. You wouldn’t believe how many we find on the ground following the ceremony.
4. The Cake Cutting. It’s like pulling teeth getting guests to come over to the cake for the cake cutting. While it is a sweet moment between the couple, at this point, the guests just want the festivities to begin and eat the cake later in the night when they get the munchies.
5. The Speeches. The reality is speeches are typically given by bridesmaids or groomsmen who have drank too much and nervously try to make the guests laugh. Stories about the couple make it awkward for everyone in the room. While the bride and groom enjoy hearing from their favorite people, many in the room use this time as a bathroom or bar break.
