EKKKKK!!!!! Ya’ll this is the only way I know how to start this post!

Today is the day that I have been dreaming of since I was seventeen years old. For those of you who have been following us for awhile, you know how Wedding Co. came to be. But for those who don’t, let me tell you about the best husband in the world! In 2012, my now, husband wrote a personal check made out to me for $500. He told me that it was my job to match that $500 and start the business of my dreams. Not only was this one of the sweetest moments of my life, it was a huge turning point in my life and I credit my hubs for making Wedding Co. of Williamsburg the business it is today!

Fast-forward five years later, and my perspective on the business and life had changed. From the time I began the business to literally last week, I lived the daily struggle of working two full-time jobs, being a wife, trying to be a great daughter and daughter-in-law and a pup mom. It was a lot! I was constantly overwhelmed. I would day dream about the days where I could fully dedicate my day to only the business. I knew I could be more creative, give my brides more attention and most of all have a work-life balance.

For those of you reading this as a planner or wedding vendor still working that 9-5 plus your wedding job thinking “I am so Jealous,” or for those of you reading this as a friend or a supporter thinking “she took a huge risk and I hope she succeeds,” 1. don’t be jealous and 2. Lord, me too!

So how did I do it and what made me risk everything?

If you haven’t learned by now, my husband is pretty amazing and my family is just as incredible! I have had a huge support system over the years. They have been my biggest fans. From working weddings for me (my mom took orders like a champ and my husband takes things written in a timeline VERY SERIOUSLY), to helping me out with our pup because I would have a 15 hour wedding day, they were always there for me. I never had to question if one of them would help me because I was short staffed or if they would come sit with Barkley (that’s my pup pup for those of you who aren’t friends with me on fb and see my daily photos of him) since no one could be home. This support played a big role in making this decision an easy one.

This year when I hit what felt like rock-bottom trying to keep everything together, I decided it was time. Luckily, leading up to this rock-bottom moment, we were smart and had been saving what the business was bringing in, which ultimately allowed me to leave my full time position. I had 10 weddings in a row in the forecast and I knew there was no way on earth I could physically and mentally keep it all together. A few months ago I set my date and I said, “No matter what happens, this is the date that I have to go for it.” May 9th got here a lot quicker than I ever imagined.

I have now been living this life of a full-time business owner for less than a week. Today is my first full week at this and I couldn’t be happier! I feel like Wedding Co. of Williamsburg is finally going to be the Company I envisioned it would be! I have goals for getting additional weddings, hopes for expanding the Company and dreams of being a mentor to other planners out there who are living the life I just left behind. I hope that all of you reading will continue to follow us on this journey to see where life will take us!
