our philosophy

with us

My passion for people and my knack for attempting to organizing everything in my life and others led me to this career path as a senior in high school.

I just knew Williamsburg was where I was going to end up in life. I landed my first job in the wedding industry in August of 2006, working for a Williamsburg  based wedding planning company. Every chance I could, I came home from College and assisted on weddings. I soon found myself dreaming of the day when I owned my own planning business and was executing dream weddings.

Little did I know this reality was just at my finger tips and somehow my life was going on the exact path I needed to make my dream come true.

It All Started

Next Chapter: Life after college

After graduating from James Madison University in May of 2010 (go dukes!) I packed my bags and relocated back to Williamsburg where it all started.

After months of unsuccessful job hunting I finally landed a position at a local event rentals company. Ya'll, this was honestly by the grace of god and I attribute a lot of my knowledge to this job. I worked for an incredible local who seemed to know every caterer, venue and important person within the community. I established many relationships, learned everything there was to know about tents, tables, chairs and linens!

Within less than a year of working at this company, I received a call from Kingsmill Resort. They were looking for a lead wedding planner for their Resort...

Next Chapter: The Resort life

When Kingsmill called, I was just twenty-one years old. I had a bachelors degree in communications, an internship and 9 months of real life experience. I had no idea why or how in the world they thought I was qualified for the job, but I am so glad someone on the other end of that phone believed in me. I started my career at Kingsmill in January 2011.

The next year was a whirlwind. I met an incredible group of ladies and that year we executed  60+ weddings and brought in over 1 million dollars worth of business.

While I loved every minute of it, I felt like something was missing. I missed the connections with the couples and getting to work with them on every aspect of their wedding day. I quickly realized if I wanted to make this dream of mine work, the time was now.

Next Chapter: the $500 check

In July of 2012, I came home to a check for $500 written out to me. The check was from Tristan, who I had been dating since I was seventeen.

To my surprise, he had been researching what needed to be done in order for my to open my business. He asked me to take his $500 investment to the bank and match it.
With a trip to the bank, 2 checks for $500 and a business name, Wedding Company of Williamsburg was officially opened for business.

Six years later, we are a team of 10 including 4 lead wedding planners, 2 assistants and 4 interns. On average we execute 25-35 weddings a year and have become well-known in the area for "the wedding planning of Williamsburg."

SOUTHERN ELEGANCE

WE LIVE FOR

Classic. timeless. ROMANTIC.

We like to think of ourselves as butler service for you and your VIPs on your special day. When you are spending a small fortune on your wedding day, we believe you should enjoy every moment of it and feel like you attended your own day. It is our job to bring you drinks during your post-ceremony photos, ensure that your guests smoothly transition from space to space and think on our feet before you can even ask what is next.

In all of our wedding packages, we include detailed wedding timelines for each vendor, coordination of your ceremony rehearsal, 10 hours of day of service and a venue walk through. If you are the type of couple who are looking for a little more hands-on assistance, we have larger packages that include a la carte wedding services or us standing by your side for every decision.

thE FORGOTTEN soCKS

Before we begin each wedding day, we always check in with the best man and maid of honor. We always want to make sure things are going well before we arrive on site.
On this particular day, we received a panicked message... "FORGOT SOCKS. HELP. TARGET? WALMART? ANYTHING IS FINE!"

I knew what that meant.... One or more than one of the groomsmen forgot their socks. The only problem was, the couple were not from Williamsburg. After a quick Target run and 5 pairs of socks later, the groom and his groomsmen were set and ready for their day!

Grass stains everywhere

Over the years we have learned what to stock our wedding emergency kit with. Tide pens and Shout wipes are among the MANY items that we keep in stock on the wedding day.

One wedding, our stunning bride and groom did their first look, she came back inside and saw grass stains all over her dress! And ya'll when I say everywhere, I mean everywhere! Luckily, we had about 30 minutes until the wedding ceremony. We grabbed a wet cloth, our Tide pen and the Shout wipes and went to town on her dress!
After about 20 minutes of labor and love, the dress was as good as new and our bride walked down the aisle in a close to spotless, white dress!

pup pup service

If you follow us on Instagram, it's no secret that we love pups and we are happy to love on them any chance we can get! Our couple was so in love with their sweet silver lab pup and wanted to incorporate her into their wedding day! Normally, we suggest hiring a puppy service, but in this case the couples family lived in neighborhood where the venue was and we were more than happy to handle it.

Once we got our sweet bride down the aisle, we headed up the road to get Nellie girl. When I arrived at the house, Nellie had to potty and wanted to take her sweet time! Luckily after a few minutes, I was able to get her in my car and we went for a joy ride to go see mommy and daddy get married. After a couple of wedding photos, we took Nellie back home and made sure she had plenty of treats and water!

the flu

Whenever we have weddings that are far away from the hotel the guest are staying at, we highly recommend getting transportation! For venues that are far, we recommend doing a couple of stops throughout the evening for guests who are ready to go home early. But when doing this, you have to ensure that the shuttle stays on schedule.

On this wedding day, the unfortunate happened. We had multiple stops available, but one of the guests came down with a very high fever and was extremely ill just before the toasts. The transportation was due to head out in the next 30 minutes but this guest needed to go right then. We pulled our car around and took the guest to their hotel where they were able to get some rest. They were forever grateful and luckily, we never got what they had!

the shuttle fiasco

The day started out like any other. Everything seemed to be going flawlessly! The shuttle was running on time and all the couple's guests were taken from the ceremony to the reception site with no problem. We left the ceremony site once we assisted with the post-ceremony photos. When we arrived to the reception site, we expected the shuttle to bring the parents and bridal party shortly after we arrived. After about 30 minutes, we called the bridal party to see where they were. They told us the bus never showed back up. We ran outside of the reception venue and learned that the bus wrecked as it was heading back to get the bridal party! We rounded up the troops and got as many cars together as we could to go pick up the bridal party. They ended up finding their way back before we could get to them, but it was quite the ordeal!
